Heerema Zwijndrecht was one of the first companies in Europe to fabricate offshore platforms, jackets and modules. Over the last three decades Heerema Zwijndrecht has delivered hundreds of offshore structures with a cumulative weight of over 550,000 tons.
Heerema Zwijndrecht's expertise covers all aspects of a project, from concept engineering through to procurement, fabrication, installation and final commissioning. Specifically, this involves:

The Heerema Zwijndrecht engineering department uses CAD technology and can receive and issue engineering information in a standard electronic format. The use of intermediate data file types, like IDF, enable our people to work in a 3D environment, together with the engineering discipline. The systems in use are:
- CAD system (Spoolgen) based on Microstation for piping isometrics
- Microstation for workshop drawings of steel constructions in 2D or 3D CAD with in-house developed applications and macros
- Smart Plant Viewer; a 3D viewing facility for Intergraph PDS models as well a 3D AutoCad models
- Vantage review; a 3D reviewing facility for PDMS models
- An in-house developed application for weight control
- STAAD/PRO for strength calculations
- CAM software for plate and pipe cutting and for automated end preparation of structural shapes
- Applications for data exchange between used systems
- Material handling and control system
- Production control system
- Artemis/Primavera planning system; the system is compatible with PDS, PDMS.
The company has vast experience in the construction of bridges and lock-gates in the Netherlands and internationally in countries such as Scotland, Ireland, Portugal, Belgium and Sweden.
Heerema Zwijndrecht also builds industrial plants. Its modular approach to building plants saves time and simplifies work on site. This approach has proven to be successful for projects in the UK, Egypt and Norway.
Grootint GRP Systems, a subsidiary of Heerema Zwijndrecht, specializes in the design, supply, fabrication and installation of Glass-fibre Reinforced Plastic (GRP) and Glass-fibre Reinforced Epoxy (GRE) piping systems. These materials significantly reduce the lifetime cost of piping used in refineries, water and chemical plants, the offshore industry, food processing facilities and utility projects.
Grootint GRP Systems has facilities located on the Heerema Zwijndrecht yard, giving the company access to one of the largest covered assembly facilities in Europe.
