Heerema Zwijndrecht awarded innovative project
On 3 July, Heerema Zwijndrecht, one of the yards of Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG), secured a contract from Oranje-Nassau Energie B.V. (ONE) for the Procurement & Construction of a topside and jacket. It concerns an unmanned and sustainable satellite platform for the P11-E field, located near the Dutch coast.
“We are proud of this great and innovative assignment for Oranje-Nassau Energie," according to CEO Koos-Jan van Brouwershaven of HFG. Oranje-Nassau Energie is the largest private Dutch exploration and production company in the field of oil and gas. It is an innovative concept: the platform is unmanned and will be operated from a central station on the Dutch coast. There is a helideck in the event of maintenance or an emergency to reach the platform quickly. In addition, the topside is self-sufficient regarding electricity generation thanks to solar panels and wind turbines. It is expected that in the near future more unmanned stations will be installed in the North Sea. “We look forward to go to any length with our client Oranje-Nassau Energie to make this innovative project a success and to contribute together to sustainable energy,” says Van Brouwershaven.
The topside will measure 31 x 25 metres, has a height of 13 meters and will weigh 500 tonnes. The jacket will have a height of 49 metres with a foot print of 20 x 20 metres and a weight of approximately 1,000 tonnes. Special to the jacket is that the main risers go through the main legs. The project has a challenging schedule. The first cut of steel is scheduled for 1 September and ready for sail away end April 2016.
The P11-E platform is a natural gas processing offshore facility and will treat the gas feed from the P11-E field on the Dutch continental shelf. The P11-E field is located 55 kilometres North West off the Rotterdam harbour. The produced gas and condensate from the platform will be exported via a pipeline to the P15-D platform where the gas and condensate will be treated to further export.
Rosetti Marino S.p.A. and Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) entered into a letter of intent on the 16th of November with the aim to sell to Rosetti Marino the HFG activities at the yard in Zwijndrecht, The Netherlands. Rosetti Marino and HFG have worked closely together and in good mutual cooperation to investigate the viability of this proposed sale.

Following a strategic review Heerema Fabrication Group (HFG) intends to divest a significant part of its activities in the field of design and fabrication of complex steel constructions for the offshore market. HFG has been struggling for some time with insufficient project volume and marginal profitability. In addition, the risks associated with building topsides are high and clients are not prepared to pay for this risk.
