In 2000 Heerema Fabrication Group received the contract award for the Engineering, Procurement and Construction for the Integrated Ringhorne platform. The Ringhorne field is located 160 km west of Haugesund in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and positioned about 9 km north of Exxon’s FPSO Balder.
The design of the Ringhorne platform was subcontracted to RDS London, a division of KCA Deutag Drilling. The topsides were built at Heerema Tonsberg.
With a weight over 11,000 tonnes, the installation of the Ringhorne topsides was at that time the heaviest lift ever in the North Sea. Installation was performed by Heerema Marine Contractors’ Thialf crane vessel.
The jacket for the Ringhorne platform was constructed at HFG’s yard in Vlissingen and was installed in 2002 at a water depth of 130 m.
The Drilling Equipment Set (DES) and the Drilling Support Module (DSM) where both constructed at Heerema Zwijndrecht. The modules were also equipped with separators, gas turbines, power generation and drilling facilities. The Derrick, however, was not included in the contract.
